PostSubject: Need Assistance!!!! clutch questions!   Need Assistance!!!! clutch questions! EmptyWed Jun 20, 2012 3:32 am

Ok so the clutch in my car is starting to go. its a bone stock 1.6 DOHC (finally figured it out lol) now i need to know. im thinking of getting a stage 1 clutch kit on ebay for like 101 bucks. they have a stage 3 on there for 130 but it says recommended mods and shows intake headers ect. do i need these parts to make the stage 3 work in my favor or are they just saying its better to have them?

heres the link for both!

stage 1

Even though I have an auto, I've driven a few and know some about manual cars.

If you plan on keepin the car stock performance wise, stage 1 is the best, because it's supposedly the same as stock in most every car. Stage 1 modification part does not require any other engine modifications to get it to work. Whilst other mods can help to raise the power gains and realise the full potential of the mod they are not mandatory. Stage 1 mods are generally a straight forward DIY fit and should work on a standard engine that is in good condition.

If you plan on modifying more than just exhaust, intake, etc, at all, ever, get a stage 2. A lot of people like them for Civics, and I assume same would go for our cars, you don't have to upgrade other things if you get one, it's just if you do plan to upgrade it's good to have. Good for DD. Stage 2 drives like a stock should, they're usually firm, with a bit of slip to it so it's not on/off.

Stage 3 is if you're planning on pumping like 250+ horsepower through your tuner. They are a pain to daily drive with, my brother did this on his Type R before he dual turboed. He was runnin 224bhp and it sucked so much, stage 3 are basically to take a big beating.

If it's not solely a track car, then get a stage 2. Probs the best applications for what you are lookin for. But I'll let manual owners get input Razz

Most places I've found say that XTR Clutch's are hit and miss, sometimes they grab good and break in well, other times they don't. I'd go, personally, with something proven.

There's a lot of Exedy clutches for our cars on the eBay, which are quality parts. You could also go straight OEM, I'm not sure if you could get performance ones from your dealer, but it would probably be more pricy either way.

if your not running stupid power over stock, id stick with oem or exedy oem replacement..

to get better acceleration, get a lightened flywheel, lightened pulleys and if you can, a 6 speed gearbox with shorter ratios and lighten the car.. all these will give you a massive improvement with acceleration

As said above stick with oem, with a brand new clutch in the car it'll have more than enough bite for what you want from what your saying
